Setting up Turnitin (School dependent)

 Turnitin Teacher Directions

There are two ways in which Turnitin can be used in Canvas.

  • Option 1 is the full Turnitin Feedback Studio suite. This option will not show work in Speedgrader and will automatically sync grades to your Canvas gradebook.
  • Option 2 is a Plagiarism-specific option that is embedded in the Assignment options. Grading is in Speedgrader with a pass-through to the Turnitin Feedback Studio.

Please find the instructions for using both below with a video of the integration.

  • Title the Assignment, enter points, instructions, and start/due date (this will pull the dates into the Canvas assignment)
  • IMPORTANT - Feedback release date determines when students can see the graded feedback and score.
  • Click on the optional settings button to find more controls for things like allowing late work and generating originality reports. If you want students to be able to turn in late work or multiple submissions, you must set that here. You can also attach rubrics and allow students to see originality reports here. Finally, you will want to consider choosing "Save these settings for future use" here, which will let you, you know use the same settings in the future.

  • When you are all done, click the blue Submit button at the bottom of the window.
  • This will close the window and return you to the Assignments page. Your assignment is now created and you can view the assignment by clicking into it where you will see the familiar Turnitin interface (list of students and submissions.)
