The IB History of the Americas HL 1 course is based on a comparative and multi-perspective approach to the history of the Americas. The course has a primary focus on U.S. History from the Civil War to the present with comparative historical elements from Latin America and Canada. In-depth units of study include: Civil War and Reconstruction, the Great Depression, World War II, the Cold War, Civil Rights Movement, Vietnam Era, and Emergence of Contemporary America.

IB Theory of Knowledge (TOK) examines the assumptions, concepts, and problems underlying the basic disciplines of history, mathematics, language, physical and social sciences, and the arts, and provides students with an elementary understanding of the interrelationships among those disciplines. In this class, students will inquire into the ways one has constructed knowledge, the ways one judges the value of knowledge, the ways knowledge is conveyed, and the relationship between knowledge and values. This course will also provide support for the Extended Essay (EE) and CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) as required for the IB Diploma.
