Course Description: This course is a high school level course. This course is aligned to the WA State Standards for Geometry. Student learning focuses on congruence and construction, trigonometry, proof and modeling, coordinate geometry, circles and probability.

Course Goals:  The course aims to develop students' skills in geometric constructions and congruence, basic trigonometry, and proof writing. Students will apply coordinate geometry techniques, explore circle properties, and understand geometric probability. Emphasis will be placed on problem-solving, critical thinking, and clear communication of mathematical ideas. Technology will be integrated to enhance learning and problem-solving.

Course Outline by Semester or Trimester:  

1st Trimester: Foundations of Geometry , Parallel and Perpendicular Lines, Transformations, Triangle Congruence

2nd Trimester: Relationships in Triangles, Relationships in Triangles, Quadrilaterals and Other Polygons, Similarity, Right Triangles and Trigonometry

3rd Trimester: Coordinate Geometry, Circles, Two and Three Dimensional Models, Probability

Assessment Criteria 

Grading categories and types of work: Students will be graded based on classwork, in-class activities such as discussions, homework assignments, formative assessments, and summative assessments.

Category weights: 90% of the students' grade will be based on summative assessments, while 10% will be based on formative assessments and homework assignments.

Recovery Plans: Students will have recovery opportunities for grades below 85%. To qualify for a retake, students must complete missed unit homework and test corrections. During recovery opportunities, students can regain up to 85% of the original value of the assignments.

Homework: You can view homework assignments and their due dates in the Assignments section. Additionally, you can check the weekly agenda to see what is happening in our classroom.

Late Work: If you submit your assignment after the due date, your grade will be reduced by 10% for each day it is late. However, you cannot receive a grade lower than 50%. You have until the end of the unit to submit all your missing work.

2.Come Prepared: Bring a charged laptop and follow the directions on the board when you enter the classroom.

3.Use Technology Appropriately: Use calculators, computers, and other technology as directed by the teacher. Keep your phones and earbuds in your backpack during lessons.

4.Listen and Participate: Pay attention during direct instruction and actively participate in group work and other activities.

5.Work Hard and Advocate for Yourself: Take notes, complete your homework, use your class time wisely, and ask questions.

6.Show Your Thinking: Demonstrate your thought process to receive full credit on assignments.

7.Stay Safe: Follow all safety guidelines and procedures.

8.Have Fun: Enjoy the learning process and make the most of your time in class.

Classroom Routines for a Positive Learning Environment in Mrs. Ay's Classroom

1. Entering the Classroom:

   • Find your seat and get settled as soon as you enter.
   • Prepare your materials and quietly start working on the warm-up question when the bell rings.

2. Bathroom:

   • Raise your hand and ask for permission before leaving the classroom.
   • Sign out and remember that only one student may leave at a time.

3. Leaving the Room:

   • Complete the exit ticket and clean your area before leaving.
   • Wait at your desk for the bell before exiting.

4. Classroom Materials:

   • Return any borrowed items promptly.
   • Gather all necessary materials before class begins and respect others' personal space.

5. Cellphone/Earbuds Policy:

   • Keep cell phones and earbuds turned off and stored away during class.
   • If a phone is used during class, we will discuss it. Persistent issues may involve parents and the administrative team.

6. Using Technology:

   • Stay on task and use only the websites required for class.

7. Absences and Tardiness:

   • Arrive on time. If tardy, quietly find your seat and join the class quickly.
   • Check Canvas for missed work if absent and complete it as soon as possible. Request an extension if needed.
   • Persistent tardiness may require parental involvement to find a solution.

8. Classroom Participation:

   • Raise your hand to speak and participate respectfully in discussions.
   • Avoid distracting others by minimizing disruptions such as pencil sharpening and talking.

9. Classroom Environment:

   • Contribute to a positive and safe learning environment.
   • Use respectful language and avoid negative interactions with classmates.
